Phil Keaggy Concert Review
Greensboro, NC
September 29, 2001

From:

Phil was originally scheduled to perform a concert and do a Guitar Clinic on Sept 15 but, due to the events of that week, he and the promoter postponed the event until Sept.29. It seems odd to me, but I was scheduled to work on the 15th so the postponement allowed me to be able to attend. I'm not really glad in a way though, because of why it was postponed.

Phil was late due to plane flight delays, the concert was in Greensboro but instead of flying into there, that flight was cancelled so he had to fly into Charlotte, two hours south, and then drive up from the airport. The clinic was to start at 3pm, instead it was around 4:30pm. It was good, although different people were asking him questions that had nothing to do with guitar, like 'I heard that you knew Chet Atkins, is that true?' However some of these were sorta interesting to me. Chet is the one that introduced Phil to the JamMan that he uses now all of the time! I was able to ask a question about Alternate Tunings that Phil attempted to answer, and he played 'Shades of Green' for us, both there and in the concert later. He also plugged in an electric that Zion Music had brought along, it was a Sea Mist (lt mint green color) model and Phil seemed to really like the color. He played some 'John the Revelator' for us!

Later in the concert, he was really funny and musically, he was great! AT one time, when he put a percussive scratching kind of noise into the JamMan, when it came up, he scratched his head and everybody laughed at that one. He did several extended jams during the evening and everyone certainly enjoyed that!

He performed a beautiful touching version of 'Under The Grace' and near the end of the concert, did a medley with the instrumental version of GOD BLESS AMERICA plus 'Let Everything Else Go' and then encored with Rich Mullins tune.

It was a very enriching evening!

Thanks a Lot.
